The Council for Nurses and Midwives functions are to protect the public and patients and ensure the integrity of the nursing and midwifery practices.

Overseas applicants must apply for qualifications recognition and registration as a nurse or midwife to be able to practice the nursing profession in Malta, information about the registration process can be found on our website atRegistrations (gov.mt).

Applicants who have obtained their qualifications in an EU country must satisfy the conditions listed in the articles of Directive 2005/36/ECEUR-Lex - 32005L0036 - EN - EUR-Lex (europa.eu)and the Health Care Provisions act of Malta https://deputyprimeminister.gov.mt/en/department-of-health-services/nursing-services/Documents/Legal%20Framework/health%20professional%20Act%20Chapter%20464.pdf

Nurses and Midwives applying for registration outside Malta will be requested to provide a Certificate of Current Profession Status (CCPS) of the nursing or midwifery regulator in that jurisdiction. This certificate is also called Certificate of Good Standing or Verification of Registration. The regulator or competent authority in the country you are applying for registration will use this document to verify your registration in Malta.

If you were educated as a nurse or midwife in Malta, you will already have met the requirements set by the CNM (Council for Nurses and Midwives) Malta because you will have completed a nursing and midwifery programme which was approved by CNM.

All undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery students in Malta must be officially registered with CNM to be able to practice their profession.
